NSW Public Transport Data Exchange (TDX) Program

Advance Notice of changes to the Transport Data Exchange (TDX) Program

Since the TDX Program was introduced in September 2009, we have received a lot of feedback about the data, the protocols and the licence agreement.

Partly in response to this feedback, and partly as a result of improvements to the underlying data services, we are planning to implement some changes in the TDX program from 1 July 2010.

This note is designed to give you advance notice of the proposed changes. Licensees and potential licensees may wish to consider the impact of these changes in planning for their participation in the program.

Data Changes

The fundamental data standard that underpins the TDX program is the open international TransXchange standard. We will retain the TransXchange data format, but improving the way data is presented. This will have the following effects:

  • We will make more data available, including information about other public transport services and more detailed information about existing services
  • We plan to make the data available in a more efficient structure, to better manage file sizes.

As a result, whilst the data format will not change, the actual contents will be different from July 2010.

The following files are available for development and testing purposes:

Licence Agreement

We have considered ways in which the licence agreement can be improved to make it easier for licensees to make use of the data provided under the TDX program. This has resulted in a new licence agreement that will come into effect from 1 July 2010. Existing Licensees will be able to decide whether they wish to continue with arrangements under the old licence agreement or transfer to the new one.

The new licence agreement is based on the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 2.5 Australia model. You can download a copy of the draft licence agreement from the following link:
