Late night public transport services

As a round-the-clock global city, Sydney has a public transport system that helps passengers, whether they are working shift or just enjoying a night out, to get home safely and easily.

For that reason, there are buses that operate along major corridors and between train stations all night long, even after the trains have stopped running.

Late night public transport services include Sydney Buses, Pumpkin Bus routes; the CityRail NightRide Bus services; and the Hassle Free Nights bus services which operate not only in the city, but in Parramatta and Wollongong.

Sydney Buses

Sydney Buses operate along major corridors to the North, East and West of the City into the early hours of the morning.

On weekends, Sydney Buses also operates special late night services, known as Pumpkin Buses to the Northern Beaches and Coogee.

On the Northern Beaches, the Route 130 Pumpkin Bus is a loop service that travels to Manly, Queenscliff, North Curl Curl, Dee Why, Skyline Shops and Allambie Heights on Saturday nights.

Revellers in the Coogee area can catch a free Pumpkin Bus. The first pick-up point is the Arden Street bus stop, out the front of the Coogee Oval. The bus is a set down only service, with pick-ups only at late night trading venues in Coogee, Randwick and Maroubra on Friday and Saturday nights.

CityRail NightRide Buses

Most CityRail trains do not operate between midnight and 4.30am; however, special NightRide bus services are available between these hours on most Sydney suburban lines.

All buses have radio contact with taxi operators and a taxi can be requested to meet passengers at their destination. Most NightRide buses are accessible to wheelchairs, but not motorised scooters.

Hassle Free Nights – Hassle Free Bus Services

Hassle Free Nights is a comprehensive NSW Government plan to reduce alcohol-related crime and anti-social drunken behaviour in our main entertainment districts. It includes the provision of a safe and convenient bus service to or from connecting rail or taxi services. Hassle Free Nights bus services also include a security guard on the bus to ensure a safe environment and help reduce the opportunities for anti-social behaviour.

Services operate early Saturday and Sunday morning, public holidays between 12 midnight and 4.00am.
