New Trip

The From and To fields may be used in several ways:

  1. Enter the street number and name (eg: 6 Smith) plus the Suburb name in the Suburb field (if known); or
  2. Enter a street intersection, for example, George&&King.(This is helpful if you are not sure of the suburb, which you may leave blank).
  3. Enter a Landmark name in the Suburb field, eg Hornsby Westfield or State Library.(This is helpful where the system is unable to locate your street name (eg for a very new street); or
  4. Enter a suburb name only (This is not as precise as options (a) to (c) above)

Priority Options:

The trip planner lets you select from fastest trip or least service changes.

The fastest trip will give you the quickest trip but options may include one or more service changes.

If you select least service changes, the trip planner will provide options that minimise the service changes.

If you are a regular public transport user, it is suggested you try using each of the options to determine which one suits you best.

Helpful Hints:

  1. Street intersections are the most accurate way of finding a To or From location. Just leave the suburb blank and let the system find the various matches.
  2. If the streets are near a suburb boundary, it may be better not to include a suburb name, eg Eddy Ave (near Central station) is in Haymarket and not Sydney.
  3. If you are trying to find street names that start with The for example The Crescent, The Boulevarde, The Esplanade, etc, enter the name of the nearest cross street plus the suburb name (if known).
  4. There are thousands of landmarks entered into the system. These include many shopping centres, schools and churches, all train stations, along with BP service stations, and even McDonalds restaurants. Enter these in the suburb field for a quick match.

Trip Confirmation

The confirmation boxes show the various selections sorted in alphabetical order. Scroll up and down to find the best selection.

Bus stops, ferry wharves and train stations are called (Location).

Landmarks are followed by (Landmark). Whole suburbs are followed by (Suburb).

It does not make much difference which type you select except that a bus stop is usually a little more accurate than say selecting Parramatta Westfield, which obviously covers many streets and possible entrances.

If you need to select between an (In) and an (Out) location, the trip plan provided is not likely to be affected by your selection.

If you get a trip plan that is getting you off at the wrong place then try selecting the actual stop with a street address. This may make a difference between one side of a Westfield and the other.

Results

The Results page shows you the various trip options that have been selected by the system.

The system always selects the trip that will arrive at your selected destination at the earliest time after the time you have selected. This means if you selected to leave at 10.00am, then the system will select a trip that arrives at 10:23 rather than 10:26 even if the first trip has a transfer.

Scroll down to look at the various options offered to choose your preferred trip.

You can restrict your transport options by selecting the Bus only or Train only options on the New Trip page.

Point the mouse on parts of the trip details to see underlying details of the Route, or the Stop.

Use the Print icon to print this page.

Results Map

This page shows a map for the entire trip or the trip leg or stop that you have selected from the Trip Results.

You can Zoom in and out for more or less detail. By Zooming in street names will appear. You can also pan left, right, up and down.

There is also a thumbnail map in the top right corner of the page. The box on this thumbnail shows the area being displayed on the main map.

Helpful Hints:

  1. Click once on the map to zoom in around that point.
  2. Click and drag to re-draw an area of this map.
  3. Cick on the + to Zoom IN on the map. The bigger the + sign then the bigger the Zoom.
  4. Click on the - to Zoom OUT. The bigger the - sign then the bigger the Zoom.
  5. Hold the mouse over the map feature to show information about that place, eg street name or landmark name.
  6. Press the Alt key and at the same time click and drag to move map (Pan).
