Following are common Companion Card Specific questions.

When can I start using my Companion Card?

The Cards become valid from Monday 9 March 2009.

What transport benefits does the Companion Card give me?

If you have a Companion Card, one attendant can travel with you for free on CityRail, CountryLink, regular local buses, Sydney Ferries and Newcastle Ferries. Your attendant may, however, be required to pay the Gate Access Fee on the Airport Line.

Other transport services may extend this offer to card-holders and their attendants, but they could charge a concession or full price to travel. This varies between service providers, so check before you travel.

If my attendant is travelling for free, what do I pay?

When you use a Companion Card for your attendant to travel for free, you pay the normal fare for your own travel, which may be an adult/child fare, or a concession fare: half fare, pensioner excursion fare or free travel. If you have a concession card, you will need to show it as well as your Companion Card.

Can my attendant use the Companion Card to travel for free when he/she is not with me?

No, the Card can only be used for free attendant travel when travelling with the eligible Card holder.

If I use the Companion Card for my attendant to travel for free, can I use another card for a second attendant to travel for free?

No, when you use a Companion Card for your attendant, you can't use an attendant entitlement on another card to gain free travel for another person.

Does my attendant have any responsibilities when travelling with me?

When your attendant travels on the Companion Card, they will need to make sure you are safe and comfortable, and follow any directions given by transport staff to do with your safety or that of other passengers. Transport staff are responsible for the safety of all passengers and staff on their services.

Can I use the Companion Card in other states and territories?

You can use your NSW Companion Card in other States and Territories that have a Companion Card, such as Victoria and South Australia.
